There has been noise over the fortunately-hitherto-ill-founded fears arising from a demand from a section of news broadcasters to suspend BARC’s News TV viewership Ratings which had been on an on-now-off-now-reinstated-again roll.Suspension of the BARC TV viewership ratings, were it to happen — and virtually on the eve of the upcoming elections — would be a travesty and perhaps the most ill-advised course of action. BARC, it must be remembered, is the only industry bodies-supported TV ratings measurements system that has the Broadcasters, AAAI and ISA have invested in to the tune of 60-20-20, but with equal voting and decisions rights across functions and discussions.
